The Simpsons Couch Gag by Guillermo Del Toro
After watching Pacific Rim I still think that Guillermo Del Toro is one of the most creative filmmakers working today. He has the vivid imagination of a 10 year old but combines it with an adult sense of reality, so there is an explanation to everything in his movies.
Here is an opening sequence for The Simpsons for this years Tree House of Horror episode, check it out, if you're a horror fan you heart is going to warm up.

Best Opening Credits for TV Shows - Part 2.
Here are some more of the best openings for TV shows.
The first one is from a new show, The Newsroom. The first season had a simple, not too interesting opening sequence, but I guess they realized their mistake and renew the opening for the second season. Great, intimate images, colors, nothing flashy, perfectly composed, this is how you do it:
The next one is opening sequence of the HBO series called The Pacific. It's a WW2 miniseries with great production value, but the opening in itself is a little masterpiece. The live footage mixed with charcoal drawings fits perfectly the mood of the series, you can see that they really put a lot of effort in it. Check it out:
Lastly here is a series which I'm not really fond of, but it has a really cool comic book style opening, so if not the series at least intro is worth checking out, Strike Back, here it is:

Best Opening Credits for TV Shows - Part 1.
Here is a little subjective list about TV Show opening
credits. The main titles can be remembered or forgotten all together. It’s not
necesssarily going to improve the show or make it a hit, but for sure it helps
build up it’s reputation. There a few TV Series where they did not have to
change the main titles through out the seasons, because it was already good
enough. The best example for this would be the main titles of Dexter, the TV
Show. The images and music works perfectly together, reflects on the whole
series and give a great atmosphere.
The second memorable intro would be the one for the Game of Thrones, a great series with great story and characters. The main titles are animated, we are flying around a 3D map of the world, you can see each kingdom and city from the series, a great setup for a great TV Show.
